Nestled along the banks of the Savannah River, Augusta is the second largest and oldest city in Georgia. Augusta with the motto, "We Feel Good" is the birthplace of James Brown, and the location of Springfield Baptist Church , the oldest autonomous African American Baptist church in the nation. Morehouse College was founded in the basement of the church. Today, Paine College, a thriving Historically Black College, stands proudly as a testament to African American strength and endurance. Augusta also honors African American history at the Lucy Craft Laney museum. |
